My Repair & Advice:
1. Turn off refrigerator by unplugging.
2. Open left refrigerator door.
3. Remove ice bin by releasing the lever on side of bin.
4. Remove small phillips screw on the left side in the middle of ice compartment in the front.
5. Use the straight edge screw driver to pry out access cover. Cover will slide out once the front portion is pried from the housing.
6. Once cover is removed, unplug the second (inside) wire clip (with wires leading to the ice maker) by squeezing the clip.
7. Push the plastic lever located at the top of the ice maker while gently pulling the ice maker toward you.
8. The ice maker will come free and you can remove as you free the wire leading to the unit with it.
9. Assembly is in the reverse order.

My Repair & Advice:
Diagnosis was most difficult as the ice maker was still producing but only a few cubes per day. After reviewing parts Dr. Blogs about similar problems I ordered the suggested replacement samsung Ice maker. (Note I did not replace the main board- only the icemaker) Steps for Removal/ replacement of ice maker:
1. pull out Refrig and unplug power cord to Refrig. from outlet
2. Unlatch and remove Ice maker bucket and set aside (this part is reused)
3. locate small panel on wall of Refrig compartment where ice bucket was removed.
4. remove phillips hd screw holding panel in place and remove panel. (rear of panel slides out from under plastic ears)
5. two plugs are accessible under panel. Disconnect Rear plug which is for icemaker and unlace cable out of compartment.
6. icemaker unit can now be unlatched and unit slid forward / down and out.
7. Installation of replacement Icemaker follows reverse order of above steps.

My Repair & Advice:
When I removed the vent cover at the bottom front of the refrigerator I found the electrical print for the refrigerator taped inside the cover. The ice maker has a GE part number IMC701. However the ice maker was manufactured by Samsung. The Samsung part number can be found on the bottom right side of the label located on the ice maker. The Samsung part number was DA97-05422A. If ordering a new ice maker, order the ice maker using the Samsung part number, it will be less expensive. When the test switch located on the side of the ice maker is pressed, any ice that is stored in the ice maker should drop. When I pressed the switch, the ice in my icemaker did not drop. During this test process the ice maker heater should operate, the ice maker motor should turn and the ice should drop. Note: When troubleshooting the electrical circuits, do not use the refrigerator as a common ground. It will not work in all cases. Use the electrical ground located on an electrical connector. Remove the ice bin container and remove the Phillips screw on the left side of the compartment. Remove the plastic panel. You will see two connectors behind the panel. The ice maker connector is the one on the right. When using the ice maker electrical print I checked power to the ice maker heater. Typically, depending on the design, the ice maker heater should operate for minimum of 9 seconds to 20 seconds when the ice maker test switch is pressed. The heater will shut off when the temperature reaches 35.6 degrees F. With the electrical connector hooked up use a volt meter check for 115 Volts AC between pin 9 and pin 10 of the ice maker disconnect plug located in the ice maker compartment. Probe the connector with pins being careful not to short the circuits out and don’t get shocked. When the test switch on the ice maker is pressed, 115 VAC should be registered on the voltmeter. I had voltage to the heater but I could not understand why my ice maker was not dropping the ice. I checked power to the motor and found 115 VAC to the motor between pins 8 and 10 of the ice maker connector. I remover the ice make from the refrigerator and checked resistance through the ice maker heater coil using pins 9 and 10 of the icemaker. I found that the heater circuit was open. Being relatively certain that my problem was not located in the circuit board I decided to order a new ice maker. After installing and observing the correct operation of my new ice maker and I carefully disassembled my old one. I found a temperature cutoff fuse placed in series with the heater. I checked the fuse and found that the fuse was open. I am currently in the process of ordering a new fuse. I have left a great deal of my troubleshooting procedures out of this story but I owe a great deal of thanks to Parts Dr for supplying me with all the information I needed to accomplish the task of finding what was wrong with my ice maker. I send my thanks to all that were involved.

My Repair & Advice:
Looked up problem on Internet. Somehow found Parts Doctor. OUTSTANDING website which included great, specific photos of the actual problem and description of the actual problem, including detailed explanation of the bum part originally manufactured by GE. The detail and direction was excellent. I was able to make the repair and now have a working ice maker after a four-year wait. The Good Doc Ryan even called me to confirm I had the correct part and was solving the right problem. Pricing was fabulous. Parts Doc Ryan is one man working to make America great - one repaired ice maker at a time. RATED: Two thumbs up with an OUTSTANDING.

My Repair & Advice:
Based on reading other issues on this site, I knew it was the ice maker itself or the control board (computer); taking a guess that it was the ice maker not freeing up the ice, I purchased this part and after a quick install we had a full ice cube bin.

My Repair & Advice:
Repair was very easy once I figured out how to remove the old ice maker. There were no instructions on how to change it out so one has to figure it out himself. I was very satisfied with your service. The part I ordered came in a timely manner and was very cost competive. Thank you for your service!!!

Wire harness can hold icemaker in place and give illusion that some other fastener is preventing unit from coming out.

My Repair & Advice:
I don't know what caused the water to collect in the compartment, as it should have shut off when the ice maker was removed. PartsDr said it may be a leaking valve, but two weeks later it is working perfectly. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop but nothing yet.

My Repair & Advice:
Although this refrigerator is marketed under the "GE" brand, it is manufactured by Samsung. So the Samsung ice maker is the same as the GE and cheaper. Very simple to replace. Remove the ice bin, unscrew the phillips head screw holding the wiring harness cover, remove the cover and disconnect the wiring harness plug. At the top of the ice maker press down on the clip that latches the ice maker in place, pulling forward on the ice maker at the same time. Once the ice maker is out, reverse the process to install the new part.

My Repair & Advice:
Unplug the fridge from the wall and turn off the water supply. Open the fridge and remove the ice collecting tray. Use the Philips screwdriver to remove the screw on the left that holds a panel in place - this panel covers the wiring harness, i.e. the plug and cable to the ice maker. Depress the spring at the top and remove the faulty ice maker, sliding it forwards and down. Put the new ice maker in by reversing the last few steps; place it in the correct position ensuring that the wiring does not catch anywhere, reconnect the connector, replace the panel and retaining screw. (You will need to push the ice maker back until the spring clicks back into place.) Plug the fridge back in and turn the water back on. At this point open the fridge and press the "Test" button near the top front of the ice maker - look at the faulty one for reference if needed. Replace the ice maker tray and close the fridge back up - wait up to 10 minutes, you should hear a sound that indicates that the ice maker is being reset. New ice should begin production soon, you will most likely hear the water being drawn in. It may take longer if the refrigerator got warm during the repair. Done! Enjoy.

My Repair & Advice:
I purchased the Samsung DA97-05422A version of the GE WR30X10097 ice maker for about half the price of the GE. It is an exact replacement. Fast delivery from Parts Dr.

My Repair & Advice:
New part works great. The ice maker makes more ice than it ever did. I did notice the addition of a foam seal around where the cold air comes in from the freezer. This should help concentrate the cold air on the ice maker and not leak to the rest of the ice maker area. Parts Dr was very easy to deal with. Placed my online order and within 2 days, my part was here. Part was brand new and in great condition. Will do business with them again when the need arises.

My Repair & Advice:
Parts Dr made this job really easy and affordable. I almost ordered the icemaker from GE before I found Parts Dr online. Part Dr offered the same part as GE but for half the price and it was delivered to my house in two days (on a National holiday). The success stories on the Parts Dr website convinced me I could do this job easily and quickly. I won't repeat the "how tos" because several others have already done so probably better than I could. I installed the new icemaker in about 10 minutes and it has worked great ever since. Thank you Parts Dr!
